We’re giving a big hello and welcome to our newest team member and Physiotherapist—Iwona Gradowska!
To get to know Iwona better, we sat down with her for a short Q & A….
CPC: What are you most looking forward to about joining the team at Comox pHysio?
IG: I’m looking forward to further developing the cardiac rehabilitation program and making it more accessible to the people of the Comox Valley. I’m also excited to learn from my new colleagues and discover current trends in Canadian physiotherapy. Hopefully, I can also broaden my skills in neuro-rehabilitation.
CPC: Tell us a little bit about your education and clinical experience?
IG: I finished my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Poland at Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw—the oldest faculty of rehabilitation in Europe. My studies were focused on general physiotherapy, sports, and adapted physical activity. I gained professional experience in Poland, Spain, England, and Portugal. I worked mostly with cardiac patients suffering from heart attacks, thoracic surgeries, heart transplantations, subcutaneous implantable electronic devices, and chronic heart conditions. I also completed a lot of practice with adult neurological patients.
CPC: How do you like to stay active?
IG: I used to be a professional basketball player and that is how I learned about the importance of staying active (and dealing with injuries!) and where I gained teamwork skills. I still enjoy team sports, but now my preferred physical activity is dancing. I also enjoy walking, gardening, and using a bike as a main means of transportation.
CPC: Give us 3 other interesting tidbits about yourself.
IG: 1) I am a big fan of herbal medicine 2) my favourite country is Brazil and 3) I’ve done volunteer work with kids on three different continents.
