Our Therapists
Shannon Martens BSc PT
Shannon joined us at Comox Physiotherapy Clinic in August 1998. She brings expertise in many areas including cransiosacral and physiotherapy treatment following Breast Cancer surgery.
Shannon received her physiotherapy degree from Queen's University in 1994, followed by a number of different courses including muscle energy, myofascial release, craniosacral and orthopaedic manual therapy.
Shannon's most recent training includes visceral manipulation and vestibular rehabilitation.
One special area of interest to Shannon is treating women following Breast Cancer surgery. She recommends that you come in for a consultation and treatment 1- 2 weeks following surgery. The treatment usually lasts 1 hour. She will deal with such topics as Lymphedema (swelling, often caused from radiation treatments or the removal of lymph nodes), tethering, increasing the movement of the arm and shoulder, increasing muscle strength, managing pain and help monitoring your activities to avoid overworking the arm affected.
Shannon’s other interests lie in animal rehabilitation. In the fall 2001 she travelled to an equine rehabilitation facility in Calgary to spend a week of intensive training in the rehabilitation of horses. She also participated in a canine rehabilitation course.
Conditions treated in both dogs and horses are spinal dysfunction, osteoarthritis, peripheral
joint pain and instability, post-op rehabilitation, tendon and muscle injuries and neurological problems.
Shannon is pleased to offer these services and encourages you to discuss this option with your veterinarian.
A referral is required and a team approach with the veterinarian is always in the best interests of the animal patient.
Only a limited number of patients are accepted.
